New York sports teams from around the city paid tribute to NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu on Sunday. The two NYPD officers had been targeted and assassinated by a crazed gunman, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who then turned his weapon on himself at a nearby subway station.

Brinsley had also killed his girlfriend in Baltimore earlier Saturday and was spouting violent, anti-police rhetoric via social media.

The officers' deaths shook an already tense and hurting city to its core. Thankfully, the Big Apple sports franchises truly rose to the occasion.

New York Jets center Nick Mangold entered MetLife Stadium wearing an NYPD hat on Sunday morning; meanwhile, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin sported a black memorial stripe and peace sign over his wardrobe.

In the evening the New York Rangers and Brooklyn Nets both held moments of silence for the fallen duo, and the Nets also kept a NYPD hat atop the broadcasting booth for the duration of their game against Detroit.

And if all that wasn't enough, on Sunday the foundation started by late New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner announced that it was going to cover the education coast of slain officer Ramos' two children.
