Arizona Cardinals quarterback Ryan Lindley is more talented than we think.

The backup, pressed into service Thursday night for the injured Drew Stanton, preserved the Cardinals' 12-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams and kept Arizona as the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff picture. The Cardinals improved to 11-3 on the season, despite now relying on their third-string quarterback.

Perhaps, Lindley, the San Diego State grad, was able to lead the Cardinals to victory because of some divine intervention.

Gamedayr.com reported that Lindley's Twitter account sent a tweet out at 8:07 p.m., when Lindley had entered the game and replaced Stanton, who left with a right leg injury.

According to Gamedayr.com, a charity called Athletes for Charity sent the tweet on Lindley's behalf while he was playing on Thursday night.

The charity later offered an explanation and an apology for the confusion.

But not everyone bought the explanation.

Stanton's status is unknown, according to Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, as reported by Yahoo! Sports.

"We know he has a knee injury," Arians said. "We have no idea what the extent of it is. He's had a knee injury before, so there's not any knowledge whatsoever with him.

"We'll take it very slow with him and see how it goes, once we get the MRI and more information."

If Stanton's injury is season-ending, Lindley will compete with rookie Logan Thomas for the starting job for the rest of the season.
