Ex-NBA Player Stabbed, Critically Injured In Fight

Predrag Danilovic, known to NBA fans as Sasha Danilovic, was stabbed Friday night in Belgrade, and was seriously injured, according to Serbian police.

Danilovic, who is the current general manager of the Serbian basketball team Partizan Belgrade, got involved in a brawl outside of a Belgrade cafe in the small hours of Saturday morning, and suffered stab wounds to his head, arms and abdomen. It is unknown at the moment the reason for the brawl starting. The police said Danilovic underwent surgery to treat his injuries.

Danilovic spent two seasons in the NBA with the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. Danilovic was originally drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 1992, but was traded to Miami before ever suiting up. As is the case with many foreign draftees, Danilovic didn't step onto an NBA court until 1995 with the Heat.

As a member of the Heat during the 1995-1996 season, Danilovic proved to be a capable scorer, averaging 13.4 points per game in 28 minutes a night. He did not contribute much in other categories, averaging 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists, but he was a 43 percent shooter from behind the 3-point line.

He was traded from the Heat to the Mavericks during the 1996-1997 season. Between the two teams Danilovic scored12.5 points per game, but his 3-point shooting dipped to 36 percent.
