CM Punk set the wrestling world abuzz earlier this week with his comments on Colt Cabana's podcast, which includes him revealing that he got his termination papers from the WWE on the day he was set to marry WWE Diva AJ Lee.

There have been many power couples in the wrestling industry over the years and Punk & Lee are no exception to that trend, despite the "Best in the World" leaving the WWE back in January.

Punk and Lee are two of many figures in professional wrestling to pair off and we here at Sports World News will count down the five best couples in professional wrestling history.

Honorable Mentions: X-Pac and Chyna (for humor purposes only), Jerry "The King" Lawler and The Kat and Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella.

5) John Cena and Nikki Bella: While they are kept apart in WWE storylines, Cena and Bella are a well-known item and have appeared on Total Divas together as well. The interesting part to this dynamic is that Cena is currently the No. 1 babyface in the company while the WWE is attempting to mold Bella into the top heel. The WWE has made no mention as to how these two haven't addressed this issue in storyline, but they are still one of the biggest power couples ever assembled in the WWE.

4) Edge and Lita: The most interesting storylines are those that blur the lines between the wrestling realm and reality, and that was never more prevalent than in the Edge-Lita-Matt Hardy love triangle. Lita, who was dating Hardy, had an affair with Edge in real life that Hardy eventually found out about and shared with the world on social media. Hardy was temporarily released from the WWE for going public with the news, but when he was brought back the organization actually used it in a storyline, having Edge and Lita work as heels and Hardy as a babyface out for revenge. To make matters worse, Hardy came out on the losing end of this rivalry more often than not while Lita became Edge's long-term manager, staying with him as he went on to hold the WWE Championship. These days, Edge is now with former WWE Diva Beth Phoenix and the two have a daughter.

3) CM Punk and AJ Lee: While their relationship never really flourished on-screen, Punk's real-life departure and Lee being an active Diva has made for one of the more interesting stories in and outside of the ring in recent memory. Punk has been out of the WWE since January and the two sides have been on really bad terms, especially with Punk blasting the company on Colt Cabana's podcast recently. As for Lee, she lost the WWE Divas Championship to Nikki Bella in 35 seconds at Survivor Series. There have been rumors that she's on her way out, but that may not be truthful. One has to imagine it's a very odd situation for Lee to be involved in.

2) Triple H and Stephanie McMahon: Love them or hate them, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are a driving force in professional wrestling today. It was a crazy swerve when the two first came to power with Stephanie turning on her father Vince McMahon after it was believed Triple H "drugged" her and married her in storyline before they tied the knot in real life. The two dominated WWE program during the McMahon-Helmsley era in the early 2000s and went on to continue to rise to power to this very day, most recently with The Authority storyline. While they are out of power on-screen, the future of the WWE is very much in their hands.

1) Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth: While there have been controversial couples like Edge and Lita and there are powerful couples like Triple H and Stephanie in the history of wrestling, perhaps no couple is more revered than the late Randy Savage and late Miss Elizabeth. The two were a perfect fixture in the WWE from the 1980s-early 1990s and the pair even spent time together in WCW. The two were married in real life and then in kayfabe at the 1991 SummerSlam event, but they eventually divorced in the summer of 1992. Savage and Elizabeth both passed away tragically, but during their time together -- most notably when Elizabeth guided him to the ring four times in one night when he won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania IV -- they stood as one of the best couples in wrestling history.

There have been several couples throughout wrestling history, and some have been more memorable than others.
