Ray and Janay Rice made an appearance on the Today show yesterday for an interview with Matt Lauer, and they had some interesting revelations for the audience. Among other topics, they inevitably discussed the disastrous press conference that took place in May following the initial video of Ray dragging an unconscious Janay out of an elevator.

Janay Rice Thinks Getting Punched Was God's Plan

According to media reports, Lauer conducted an interview in the Rices' kitchen, and Ray admitted that, "I made a tremendous mistake not apologizing to my wife."

Following the press conference, media personalities did not fail to notice the rather obvious omission on Ray's part, and he was lambasted by nearly everyone.

Of course, that may not have even been the most shocking part of that May press event. At one point, Janay actually apologized for her role in the incident, even though video evidence appeared to indicate that she had no role in the incident other than being struck.

The Rices add that the words were never really their own. "When we was going in, we were given what to speak about. It wasn't truly coming from us," said Ray Rice.

They went on to say that they were "given a general script" for the things that they were to say at the press conference.Ray also took the opportunity to reiterate that he had never hit Janay prior to that night in Atlantic City.

Rice is hopeful that he can return to the NFL and get a "second chance" with a new team and fans around the league. He mentioned accepting responsibility for his actions and claimed that he hopes teams will "look deeper into who" he is after he and Janay "had one bad night."
