Fox West sideline reporter Dan Moriarty probably didn't make a new "Friend" during a recent NHL playoff game interview.

During the second-period intermission in Game 6 of the Los Angeles Kings-St. Louis Blues hockey game, Moriarty sidled up to actor Matthew Perry, an avid Kings fan, for an impromptu interview.

Perry, most remembered for his character, Chandler Bing on the sitcom, "Friends," had been the star of a new NBC sitcom, "Go On" that aired this past season.

That show recently was cancelled after one season, apparently to the approval of Moriarty. During his interview with Perry, Moriarty not only brought up the subject of Perry's failed sitcom, but also actually used it as a celebratory moment, congratulating the 43-year-old Perry twice.

"For a guy like you, big news today. I think congratulations are in order," Moriarty began on a video that has gone viral, in which Perry knew the direction in which the comment was headed.

"Oh thank you; you're talking about my show getting canceled," Perry replied to the nodding Moriarty.

Fortunately for Moriarty, Perry was good-natured about the comment. The actor went on to talk about the cancellation being a sad moment for the people working on the show before saying, "This show that I was doing was really getting in the way of some Kings games, so I'm OK."

Moriarty tried to play along, adding "So it's a double-edged sword congratulations."

In fact, the interview begins awkwardly, with Moriarty commenting that a Zamboni is driving past him before he starts talking to Perry, and then fumbling through the first question. The Kings scored a goal just before the second period ended, and Moriarty tried to engage Perry's hockey knowledge.

"I was going to ask you what you like about the Kings," Moriarty said, "That question's moot now because we know what you like about the Kings."
