With a lot of fans watching the Survivor Series pay-per-view for free Sunday night on the WWE Network, the organization opted to push Sting into the main event scene as a way to secure more paid subscriptions.

WWE Monday Night RAW Preview From Indianapolis

The WWE offered Survivor Series and a month-long subscription for free to new users of the WWE Network in November as a way to boost up subscriptions and plans were back and forth on how Sting would be utilized until the WWE finally decided what role to put him in Sunday night.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, earlier in the weekend there was a plan in place to do an "unveiling" type promo that would announce Sting's involvement in the WWE.

There were also changes in the script as Sting's unveiling was set to take place before or after the traditional four-on-four Divas Survivor Series match, but that bout came on second and there was no unveiling of Sting at that point obviously.

It is possible that the WWE threw Sting's unveiling in the script while not allowing most people to know that he would get involved in the main event as a way to keep the spoilers from getting out.

Sting came out and had a stare down with Triple H at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, which led to the two getting in a physical battle that was won by Sting as he hit the Scorpion Death Drop on "The Game."

The former WCW and TNA icon then draped Dolph Ziggler over Seth Rollins, ensuring the win for Team Cena and costing Triple H and Stephanie McMahon their power.

It is now expected that Triple H and Sting will clash at WrestleMania 31 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. in March.

Another reason the WWE brought Sting in was to help promote the WWE 2K15 video game while the company also implemented him into their strategies for the WWE Network.

WWE officials drilled home on their "free" event the point that anything can happen and that anyone can show up at pay-per-views, leading to Sting walking into the company.

There were plans in place to push the network by the WWE last night, which included announcing the Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose Tables, Ladders and Chairs match next month at TLC and the promotion of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's podcast with guest Vince McMahon on the WWE Network next week.

Sunday night marked the first time that Sting ever set foot in a WWE ring.
