Kevin Durant padded his lead as the NBA athlete with the most endorsement deals recently when he inked a new agreement with Sonic. Upon hearing the news, it is hard not to think back to the start of Durant's NBA career, when he suited up for the Seattle Supersonics. The former Seattle basketball franchise moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder in 2008.

Kevin Durant-Dwight Howard Feud Update

According to ESPN, Durant will become the first athlete to represent the Sonic brand in a move that both sides hope will help broaden their exposure. Sonic is a rapidly expanding fast food chain, and Durant wants to continue on his path toward becoming a global icon, as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan did before him.

Sonic has its national headquarters in Oklahoma City, which seems like one of the primary reasons both sides agreed to the deal. Sonic gets to hire the hometown hero to represent their brand, and Durant builds up some extra goodwill by signing with a company that resides in the same city he plays in.

Representatives for Durant say that he even eats at Sonic. "Everything that Kevin pitches comes from an authentic point of view," said Michael Yormark. "When it comes to grab-and-go food, KD's a Sonic guy." Yormark is the president and chief of branding and strategy for Roc Nation, the agency that represents Durant and is owned by Jay Z.

Durant has yet to play in a game this season while he recovers from a broken foot, and the Thunder have struggled on the court. They are currently 3-10, having also lost point guard Russell Westbrook to an injury, and reside in last in the Western Conference.
