Tonight at 7 p.m. ET, the Dallas Stars (3-1-2, eight points) and New Jersey Devils (3-2-1, seven points) face-off for the first of two meetings this season live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey. The game can be live streamed here. Dallas fans can hear all the action on 105.3 The Fan while New Jersey fans can do the same on 101.9 WFAN.
Dallas has won three of its last four games after dropping its first two matches of the season while New Jersey is looking to snap a three-game skid after winning three consecutive contests to start the campaign.
The Stars have been dealing with some injuries and coach Lindy Ruff said he may change up the line combinations for tonight's game.
"The offensive side of the game has been good," Ruff told the Stars website. "At the same time, if teams go into a little bit of a lockdown against our top line we'll be ready to try to split them up and give them a couple different looks."
Much like last year, Dallas' offense has run through Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn as Seguin has a team-best 10 points off of five goals and five assists and Benn is tied for second on the team with eight points off of four tallies and four helpers.
Newcomer Jason Spezza is tied with Benn with eight points after lighting the lamp once and adding seven helpers.
Seguin and Benn each found the twine in the Stars last game, a 6-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, while Erik Cole scored twice.
The Devils are reeling on the heels of three straight losses and will look to get their penalty kill going after allowing five goals in 12 shorthanded situations thus far this season. New Jersey ranks 28th in the NHL on the penalty kill.
"I think we've got to get back to doing what we do best on the [penalty kill] and that's being aggressive and being hard to play against and taking advantage of opportunities to be aggressive," coach Peter DeBoer told Northjersey.com.
Mike Cammalleri (five goals, two assists) and Adam Henrique (three markers, four helpers) are tied for the team lead with seven points while three Devils -- including the ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr (1-4--5) have five points.
Henrique and Jagr each scored for the New Jersey against the New York Rangers last time out, but the team coughed up a 3-1 lead and lost 4-3 in overtime.
In net, the Devils are likely to turn to Cory Schneider, who is 3-2-1 with a 3.13 goals-against average and .898 save percentage this season while the Stars will likely counter with Kari Lehtonen in the crease. Lehtonen is 3-0-2 with a 2.92 GAA and .913 save percentage this season.
New Jersey swept both games from Dallas in the 2013-14 campaign.
The Stars look to continue to stay hot while the Devils hope to halt a three-game skid when the puck drops on these teams tonight at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
