The No. 5 Auburn Tigers get their last chance to impress the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, before the first rankings are released on Tuesday, against a South Carolina Gamecocks team that has lost two of their last three games.

Auburn is coming into this game after suffering their first loss of the season to a superior Mississippi State team that jumped to No. 1 in the country after the win. Coach Gus Malzahn spoke about the loss and said the character of the team will be determined by how they respond to the loss and play against South Carolina.

"Any time you lose your last game, you can't wait to get on the field and get out there," Malzahn said. "The thing about our team is I feel pretty comfortable with how they're going to respond, because we have a lot of veteran guys that have been through a lot of different experiences.”

Malzahn said that loss came down to poor execution and if the Tigers clean up the small mistakes they are a very hard team to beat.

"It really comes down to the execution part," Malzahn said. "We were very efficient, especially in the second half of the year last year, and we're hoping that the same thing will happen this year. A lot of it has to do with we've had some injuries up front. We've mixed and matched. We really haven't gotten our guys in the same spot over and over again so you can really get clicking.”

Auburn has their chances to get back in the national championship conversation as they play No. 3 Ole Miss on November 1, No. 9 Georgia on November 15 and No. 4 Alabama to close out the season on November 29.

Auburn has dominated the all-time series against South Carolina 9-1-1 and the Gamecocks sole win came in 1933. Auburn has won seven-straight against South Carolina, including winning 16-13 in their 2011 matchup.
