Georges St. Pierre has taken another step towards a potential return to the UFC, if he ever chooses to fight again.

It is still unknown whether the former longtime UFC welterweight champion will ever step into the octagon again, but St. Pierre returned to mixed martial arts training on Monday for the first time since tearing his ACL earlier this year, according to MMAJunkie. Firas Zahabi, St. Pierre's longtime coach at Canada's TriStar Gym in Montreal, posted a photo of St. Pierre on Twitter:

Zahabi saying St. Pierre "looked awesome" surely gives fans hope of an imminent return, but "Rush" has remained quiet about the subject of his comeback.

Adding fuel to the fire, UFC president Dana White reportedly met with St. Pierre in Montreal last week. It's possible White just happened to be visiting the city and decided to meet with St. Pierre to catch up on life. But UFC fans would definitely love to see the former 170-pound champion fight again and hope this meeting means he will be returning in 2015.

This past November, St. Pierre defended the UFC welterweight championship for the ninth consecutive time with a split decision win over Johny Hendricks. Following the win he said he needed to take time away from mixed martial arts and vacated the title, but he didn't officially retire.

Meanwhile, the welterweight division is as competitive as it's ever been. Current champion Hendricks will defend his title against Robbie Lawler on Dec. 6 at UFC 181. There is a host of contenders waiting in the wings like Rory MacDonald, Carlos Condit and Matt Brown. UFC President Dana White said St. Pierre would receive an immediate title shot if he chose to return to the UFC.
