The shortest quarterback controversy in the NFL has figured itself out as coach Jay Gruden announced that Robert Griffin III will be the starter for Washington when he is cleared to play.
Gruden spoke about the status of Washington's quarterback situation and said that Griffin will be the starter when he is cleared to play and 100 percent healthy.

“He’s got to get cleared first, then we’ll have to have a plan. Once they say he’s healthy and he practices with us and we feel like he’s ready to go mentally and we have a good game plan for him, then he’ll be the starter,” Gruden said. “But I don’t know when that will be yet. That’s hard for me to project. Could be one week, two weeks. Could be five weeks. I don’t know yet.
“He looks good so far, he’s making good progress, as we knew he would, the type of worker he is. But making progress in the training room and making progress on the practice field are two entirely different things and we just got to make sure he’s right both mentally and physically before he gets back out on the field.”
This decision isn’t all that shocking seeing how the Redskins are 1-5 and quarterback Kirk Cousins has been borderline terrible since taking over the starting role. What comes as a surprise is how early in the season Gruden decided to make the decision on Griffin.
Cousins has had an up and down 2014 to this point as he has alternated good and bad games. Cousins has has three games where he has been very sharp and has thrown for 960 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception, but the other two games he has thrown for 611 yards, three touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The Redskins could still look to trade Cousins, but at this point his trade value has plummeted to almost nothing.
