The Johnny Manziel era has been put on hold in Cleveland, but how long will the Browns ride Brian Hoyer at quarterback?

Hoyer is set to be a free agent at the end of the season and rumors are starting to swirl as to his status with the Browns after 2014. The Browns could sign Hoyer to a mid-level extension that would rival that of Matt Schaub and Ryan Fitzpatrick, or they could choose to put all their eggs into one basket for one season and franchise tag him.

Hoyer is looking at a contract that will give him around $12 million in base salary, but a solid number that could vary from $25-$35 million guaranteed. Manziel could very well be the future of the Browns, but at the moment Cleveland is busy trying to win now.

The Browns are 3-2 on the season and Hoyer is 6-2 as the Browns' starter over the past two seasons. Hoyer has shown no longterm effects of his torn ACL he suffered in 2013 and has the Browns in position to be 6-2 before a showdown with the AFC North favorite Cincinnati Bengals.

Hoyer is 29-years-old and has a quarterback rating of 99.5 this season with seven touchdown passes and just one interception on the season. The Browns go for 4-2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday.
