Longtime UFC announcer Mike Goldberg tried his hand at calling an NFL game this past Sunday, and it didn't go too well.

But after receiving criticism from fans on Twitter Goldberg made the situation even worse by firing back with profanity, leading to his removal by FOX from the game he was supposed to be covering this week.

Goldberg did the play-by-play call for the game between the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. Obviously out of his element, he misidentified players and coaches, mispronounced names, couldn't keep track of the down and distance and seemed flustered throughout the game. Fans voiced their displeasure and following the game he responded by calling one fan a "douche" and sent a "dude f--- you" to another.

Goldberg was supposed to call the Buffalo vs. Minnesota game, but FOX announced his removal from the game on Tuesday according to ProFootballTalk.com. FOX Sports broadcaster Tim Brando will be his replacement.

Goldberg is actually no stranger to Twitter-hate and frequently fires back and those who criticize him. That type behavior is probably tolerated by the UFC because its president Dana White has been known to go off on some profanity-laced rants himself. But those actions do not fly with FOX. Goldberg tweeted an apology on Tuesday evening:

It is unlikely Goldberg will receive any discipline from the UFC and he is expected to make the call alongside longtime partner at UFC 179 on Oct. 25.
