Neymar scored four goals to lead the Brazilian national team past Japan, 4-0, on Tuesday in Singapore. The 22-year-old captain became the first man to achieve such a feat for Brazil in 14 years.
Neymar's brilliance was on full display at National Stadium as part of the Gillette Brasil Global Tour. He showcased his incredible speed and footwork to make each goal look easy. He now joins Zizinho, Ademir, Julinho, Evaristo, Zico, Careca and Romario on the list of players who have scored four goals in a single game for the Brazilian national team.
"Just talking about it gives me goosebumps," he said afterwards, according to Goal.com. "The emotion I feel is huge, I'm immensely happy to have accomplished something like this. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine doing this with the national team."
Neymar now has 40 goals in just 58 games for Brazil. He is currently fifth on the team's all-time list behind Zico (48), Romario (55), Ronaldo (62) and Pele (77). At such a young age it's likely he will have a chance to break the all-time scoring record, but he said that's not his focus.
"I do not know how many goals I can score for Brazil," he said. "I just want to help my teammates and the Brazilian national team, which is the most important thing."
Since losing in the semi-finals of the World Cup to Germany, Brazil has now won four straight matches. Neymar posted a photo on his Instagram after the game and the caption translates to say, "Coming home from duty done, congratulations to all .. Very happy for everything have worked !!"
