Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys are flying high at 4-1 and with Romo in the good graces of the media, he declared his teammate the best Cowboy of all-time.
Romo, on conference call with the Seattle-area media Wednesday, said that his long-time teammate Jason Witten could very well be the best Dallas Cowboy in the history of the team.
"He might be the best Dallas Cowboy of all time," Romo said of Witten. "Literally, his career has been exceptional. He's hit every mark you could ever have, and he's going to go down as the first- or second-greatest tight end of all time. I've just been lucky enough to play with him.”
Witten has had himself a Hall of Fame career and became only the third tight end in NFL history to surpass 10,000 receiving yards receiving for a career. Witten could surpass Shannon Sharpe (10,060) but will come nowhere close to Tony Gonzalez(15,127).
Witten’s 898 receptions is the Cowboy all-time record and only Michael Irvin (11,904) has more receiving yards than Witten’s 10,014. When Witten calls it a career, he will likely join the 14 other Cowboys enshrined in Canton, Ohio.
The only thing that Witten doesn't have on his resume to this point is a Super Bowl ring. Something that he and Tony Romo would love to bring to the city of Dallas in the near future.
