Michael Vick has admitted that he should had taken his scout team practice reps more seriously in light of the New York Jets 31-0 beat down by the San Diego Chargers.

Vick spoke to the media and admitted to slacking off at practice and said as a 14-year veteran he expected these things to just come naturally.

“I felt like I, for some reason, being a quarterback in his 12th year, sometimes you to take things for granted,” Vick said Wednesday. “I think I took the scout team for granted.”

Earlier Vick said, “Maybe I didn’t prepare or I wasn’t prepared, but let me tell you it won’t happen again.”

But later, he backtracked, saying, “I didn’t say I wasn’t ready because of the [scout team] snaps.”

Vick has come under fire since he admitted to not taking practice reps seriously and many members of the New York media have simply asked him to lie next time fore his own sake. Vick’s admission confirms a report from the summer that the Jets believed Vick was simply coasting through training camp and had no intention of taking the starting quarterback role from Geno Smith.

Vick went 8-for-20 passing for 47 yards in the blowout loss and at times looked lost in the Jets offense. Vick threw a touchdown pass on a broken play late in the fourth quarter, but it was called back after it was determined Vick was past the line of scrimmage when he threw the pass.

The Jets are the first team to be shutout this season and will play the red hot Denver Broncos this weekend in the Meadowlands. Geno Smith is set to start for the Jets.
