All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson is expected to enter a plea of not guilty Wednesday when he appears in a Montgomery County, Texas, courtroom. The Minnesota Vikings star is charged with reckless or negligent injury to a child.
The charges stem from an incident in which Peterson used a switch to discipline his son earlier this year.
"If the court asks for a plea tomorrow [and we do expect that to happen], it will definitely be not guilty," a spokesperson for Peterson attorney Rusty Hardin told ESPN.com. "We hope that a trial date is also discussed, but don't yet know how the court's docket is looking."

The NFL has placed Peterson on its exempt/commissioner's permission list. He is receiving his full $11.75 million salary, but isn't allowed to participate in any team-related activities. Peterson has maintained his innocence in the matter. "I never ever intended to harm my son," Peterson said in September after his arrest. "I will say the same thing once I have my day in court."

If convicted, Peterson could face six months to two years in state prison; he could also be placed on probation as a first-time offender, according to ESPN.com.
