He's the one person that Jameis Winston can relate to. But that doesn't mean than Johnny Manziel offering him advice is a good idea.

Cleveland.com reported on Manziel's bye weekend, in which he went to watch Texas A&M play Arkansas at Cowboy Stadium.

Manziel said he missed college life - except for the minor technicality of actually attending school - but made the right choice leaving for the NFL.

Then he dropped the bombshell that he was interested in mentoring Winston as he navigates through his year-after-Heisman-Trophy-winning season.

Michael Sam taunts Johnny Manziel with money gesture after preseason sack

"I haven't talked to him probably since the ESPYs when I saw him in L.A., but that's probably a good idea,'' he said."I'll reach out to him and say a little something to him. More than anything it's the middle of the season now and I don't think he wants anybody that's not on his squad interfering. But Jameis is a guy that I've had a good relationship with and want to help in as many ways as I can, or if anything I can say or I've been through can help him than I would love to do that.

"But I think for him right now just try and let as much time pass by and let some of these things blow over and worry about the position they are in right now and being the best team in the country and worry about football and the ACC. And really I think everything else will be OK. He's continuing to grow up. He's a young guy, too, but I really I think he'll figure it out as he continues to go on.''

Of course, few at Florida State or in his family seem to be mentoring Winston, so at least Manziel is willing to do something Winston's inner circle isn't.

A key difference has existed up to this point. Manziel's family has money, so it has never been an issue with him. He was able to attend whatever event he wanted.

Winston was caught shoplifting. Now he may have money when he exits college and signs with an agent that will throw money at him.

Manziel surfaced in several social media photos and made news about his offseason activities. His response to questions about his weekend agendas was that he wasn't going to change who he was.

It was the wrong answer for Manziel. It is the wrong answer for Winston as well.
