Tonight at 9:37 p.m. ET on TBS, the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals will tangle again in Game 2 of their ALDS matchup, which will be televised on TBS and can be live streamed online by clicking this link. Angels fans can catch the radio broadcast on 830 KLAA, while Royals fans may do the same on KCSP 610. The Angels will have Matt Shoemaker toeing the rubber against rookie Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura.
Shoemaker has been impressive for the Angels this season, but makes for a bit of a risky start because he hasn't pitched since mid-September due to a strained oblique. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he doesn't expect that injury to linger and affect him.
"We're expecting Matt to be fine and pitch as deep as he can into the game," Scioscia said. "We like the way Matt has been pitching, and I think (Jered) Weaver getting out in Game 1, followed with Matt, gives us the best look here in the first couple of games."
Shoemaker was 16-4 in 2014, and posted a 3.04 ERA and 1.074 WHIP in 20 starts. They will need him to be at his best; the Royals won an extra innings thriller in Game 1, and have more momentum than any other team in the postseason. Mike Moustakas won Game 1 for Kansas City with a home run to right field off reliever Fernando Salas.
Some Royals fans may be concerned that Ventura's adventure in the wildcard game vs. the A's might have shaken his confidence, but Royals skipper Ned Yost believes his power pitches will overcome.
"We like his power," manager Ned Yost said. "(Tuesday's) game was like a side session for him. He throws a 100-mph four-seamer, a 96-mph two-seamer, 95-mph cutter, a nice changeup and above-average curve when he throws it for strikes."
