The Kansas City Chiefs have the top pick in tonight's NFL draft, which airs at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN. According to reports, the Chiefs know whom they will be taking with the first overall pick, if in fact they decide to keep it.
Chiefs general manager John Dorsey has told ESPN that he and head coach Andy Reid are in 100 percent agreement on who the first pick will be. While the Chiefs are expected to take left tackle Luke Joeckel out of Texas A&M, there is growing speculation that they could surprise the experts and select Eric Fisher, a left tackle out of Central Michigan.
Fisher weighs the same as Joeckel and has an inch and a half on him but there are concerns about the level of competition Fisher faced in the Mid-American conference, while Joeckel excelled in the SEC, widely considered the top conference in college football.
The San Francisco 49ers, who lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl and have the most picks in this draft (14) are rumored to be interested in trading up to be inside the top 15. According to Yahoo! Sports, the 49ers could be interested in a wide variety of this class' talents.
San Francisco is supposedly eyeing playmaking wide receiver Tavon Austin out of West Virginia, defensive tackles Sheldon Richardson from Missouri and Star Lotulelei out of Utah, and safety Kenny Vaccaro out of Texas.
Austin would provide a speedy deep threat to complement the slower, more acrobatic Michael Crabtree, while Richardson and Lotulelei would provide depth along the defensive line and insurance against a decline from Justin Smith. Lotulelei was considered a top-three talent in the draft entering the Combine, but medical examinations revealed a heart condition that may scare off teams with the highest picks.
Should the 49ers move up and select Vaccaro, he would likely be expected to contribute immediately after Dashon Goldson departed to Tampa Bay via free agency.
