The Knights of Central Florida and the Cougars of Houston start off Thursday night football as they kickoff their schedule in the American Athletic Conference.

Both Central Florida and Houston are in prime position to get a head start in the AAC as the only team that has shown any life through the first month of the season is No. 22 East Carolina. Temple, South Florida and Tulsa all have a 1-0 record in the conference but they have a combined record of 3-7 out of the conference.

Central Florida lost two straight to open the season against Penn State and then-ranked No. 20 Missouri, but got their first victory in a route of Bethune-Cookman. The Cougars have alternated wins and losses since the start of the season. Houston topped Grambling State and UNLV, but fell to UTSA and then-ranked No. 25 BYU.

Central Florida will attempt to block out the recent distractions off the field as head coach George O’Leary is being sued by a former assistant for allegedly using a derogatory word for African-Americans.

The Knights have won four of the five all-time meetings with the Cougars. Houston’s lone win against Central Florida came in a 51-31 route in 2006.
