The Michigan Wolverines have released a statement concerning quarterback Shane Morris' head injury and the actions of the people who let him return to the game.

Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon released the statement around 1 a.m. ET Tuesday and said that there was a "serious lack of communication” among the football staff. Brandon said that Morris should have never been allowed to return to the game after suffering a "probable mild concussion.”

Brandon’s statement is as follows:

"Unfortunately, this confusion created a circumstance that was not in the best interest of one of our student-athletes," Brandon said. "I sincerely apologize for the mistakes that were made. We have to learn from this situation, and moving forward, we will make important changes so we can fully live up to our shared goal of putting student-athlete safety first.”

Michigan’s situation has gone from bad to worse in light of handling of the Morris injury and that could be the last straw for head coach Brady Hoke. Hoke is already on the hot seat after Michigan’s 30-14 loss to Minnesota and the Wolverine’s 2-3 record.

Hoke and Brandon have not yet spoken about the injury and when that conversation occurs, it is unlikely to go in Hoke’s favor. Michigan travel to Rutgers this weekend in search of its first Big Ten victory this season.
