New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi believes that Alex Rodriguez will fit into the team’s 2015 plans, but that nothing is guaranteed for the former MVP.

Girardi addressed the media Monday during his end-of-season news conference and he faced questions concerning Rodriguez's status with the team in 2015. Girardi said he plans to have A-Rod play third base for the team, but they have to see where he is physically.

"We have to see where he is at," Girardi said Monday. "I think that is the thing that we have to do. I believe he is going to be 40 next summer and we need to see where he is physically at.”

"Do we expect him to be a player on our team? Absolutely," Girardi said. "Do we expect him to play third base? Yes, [but] in fairness we have to see where he is at.”

The Yankees had a platoon of players play third base this season that included 26-year-old utility infielder Yangervis Solarte. The Yankees then traded Solarte to the San Diego Padres for third baseman Chase Headley. Headley is a free agent and it is unknown if the Yankees intend to sign him to a long-term contract.

Rodriguez played in 44 games for the Yankees in 2013 and batted .244 with seven home runs and 19 runs batted in. He is serving a year-long suspension for the use of performance-enhancing drugs and is under contract with the Yankees until 2018.

Rodriguez is a 14-time All-Star and sits 61 hits shy of 3,000 for his career as well as 46 home runs shy of 700.
