The WWE has issued a statement debunking a rumor that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar missed RAW on Monday night due to heart-related issues.
Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose Hell in a Cell Match Rumored
Lesnar didn't appear on RAW just 24 hours after losing by disqualification to John Cena at Night of Champions Sunday night at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, but it had long been rumored that Lesnar wasn't booked for the show due to his part-time contract.
While it seems curious that the champion of the company wouldn't appear on the company's flagship program, Lesnar won the WWE Championship from Cena at SummerSlam on Aug. 17 and then appeared on RAW the following night before disappearing until the Sept. 15 edition of the show to promote Night of Champions due to the nature of his deal with the company.
Lesnar has even said he is a "prize fighter" and only shows up when there is a fight to compete in or promote.
Despite all of this, WhatCulture.com published an article in which they pointed out that Lesnar started out looking fine during his contest with Cena Sunday night, but he then began sweating profusely and turning red and then purple just minutes into the match.
Lesnar also looked discolored during the SummerSlam battle with Cena and was noticeably gassed during his clash with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX where he ended The Streak back in April. The Washington Post highlighted an excerpt from the article on WhatCulture.com where they speculated Lesnar could be having heart problems.
"The current WWE Champion started his match against John Cena with a completely normal look. However, after just a couple of minutes, Lesnar was already sweating profusely and had turned both red and purple in his face," the article read. "This is normal for someone undergoing intense physical exertion, but Lesnar was barely doing anything of note. A rehearsed wrestling match shouldn't be turning a man purple. ... Fans have noted that in addition to turning red and intensely sweating, Brock also appeared to be struggling for breath. Yes, he's a big guy, but he shouldn't be reacting like this. It's a worrying indicator of health problems such as blood pressure or risk of heart attack."
The Washington Post then contacted the WWE to get their reaction from the rumors going around.
"[There is] no truth to the rumors about issues with Brock Lesnar's health," the company wrote to the publication in an email.
The WWE did not offer an explanation as to why Lesnar wasn't in attendance for RAW, but the most likely explanation is that Lesnar wasn't booked due to his part-time schedule. While Lesnar possibly should be concerned for turning purple, sports entertainment is very physical and the bright lights do cause Superstars to sweat a lot while physically exerting themselves.
There were reports that Lesnar flew out of Tennessee on Monday morning after Sunday's event in Nashville because he wasn't booked for Monday's show in Memphis and that it wasn't just a spur of the moment flight.
As of this writing, there have been no confirmed plans for Lesnar going forward regarding Hell in a Cell on Oct. 26 as his challenger for the event has yet to be determined publicly by WWE creative.
