The University of Michigan now claims that a promotion with Coca-Cola that earned fans tickets to Saturday's game against Minnesota was never validated.

The promotion involved two tickets, with a total face value of $150, that could be obtained by purchasing two Coca-Cola products for $3. When Michigan officials heard about the deal, they immediately pulled the plug, citing that they never gave Coca-Cola the go-ahead on such a promotion.

A Michigan spokesman said that it was a ‘miscommunication’ between the two sides and that the promotion never received approval from Michigan officials.

"Coke is a great partner of ours and had purchased a limited block of tickets for the Minnesota game for a Coke retail activation aimed at Michigan students," the spokesman said. "Due to a miscommunication in the approval process, this promotion should not have run as-is."

Any tickets obtained Monday through the Coca-Cola promotion will be honored at Saturday's game, the spokesman said.”

The Michigan Wolverines find themselves at 2-2 after a disappointing home loss to the Utah Utes (3-0). Many believed this promotion was Michigan’s attempt to fill their stadium seeing how fan interest has started to dwindle in light of the 2-2 record.
