Boston Celtics Rumors: GM Danny Ainge Says He Has 'No Intention' of Trading Rajon Rondo, but 'Doesn't Know' What Future Holds [VIDEO]

It is believed that the Boston Celtics will attempt to trade All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo before he becomes a free agent next summer, but general manager Danny Ainge left all possibilities on the table when speaking about his franchise player.

According to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Ainge ‘doesn’t know’ if the Celtics will trade Rondo, but said that he is not actively attempting to move the team’s All-Star point guard.

Mayor of Atlanta Wants Dominique Wilkins to Expand Role With Hawks

"The truthful answer is I really don't know," Ainge said.

"I have no intention [of trading Rondo]. I'm not trying to trade Rondo, but because he's a free agent this summer, he assured me that he wants to stay in Boston,” Ainge said. “We’d love to keep him in Boston. The possibility of a trade is not out of the question. Nobody is untradeable, but I don't see that happening."

Ainge reaffirmed that the team would love to have Rondo in their future, but left the possibility for a trade wide open. Rondo has said that he would like to test the free agent market when that time comes, but did not eliminate resigning the Celtics from consideration.

Rondo has been rumored to be on the trade block since the Celtics missed out on a Kevin Love trade. Love was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Cleveland Cavaliers and now the Celtics look to be in a rebuild mode. Rondo is above and beyond the best player in Boston, but the fact that he wants a max contract deal this coming summer, could force the Celtics to move away from the point guard.

Teams Expect Celtics to Trade Rajon Rondo Before Trade Deadline

The Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks and others have been rumored to be interested in Rondo via trade or free agency.

Rondo will make $13 million in the final year of his contract. He averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 30 games last season after returning from a torn ACL in his right knee.
