Tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1), fresh off a thrashing on prime time TV last Thursday, will look to rebound against an undefeated Panthers (2-0) team featuring one of the NFL's top defenses. Carolina is 2-0 on the season largely because of its defense, and missing Greg Hardy last week didn't hinder them from getting after Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. Hardy is unlikely to play for the Panthers again, having been placed on the exempt list while his appeal of guilty verdict for misdemeanor assault.

Hardy is being paid for this season, and can be at the team's facility during the week, but cannot practice with the team or suit up on game day.

The distractions haven't affected the team though, and head coach Ron Rivera is excited about the opportunity to match the franchise's 3-0 start in 2003 when they reached the Super Bowl.

"I think we are headed in that direction," Rivera told the team's official website. "We have a lot of guys that have been in the system for (several) seasons now. It's starting to show. ... We can be better, and we've still got a long ways to go."

The Steelers haven't looked right since the first half of Week 1, and Steelers skill players are pinning that on turnovers. "We can't turn the ball over the way we did," wide receiver Antonio Brown said.

"We need to protect the ball better. When you go on the road and turn the ball over, it's very hard to overcome. We have a good offense. We will go back to the drawing board and find ways to put points in the board."
