Prado was playing very well ever since coming to the Yankees at the July 31 trade deadline and played multiple positions due to injuries to Carlos Beltran and Brett Gardner. Prado's has been one of the Yankees few bright spots on offense as he is hitting .316 with seven home runs in 37 games with New York. Prado was even batting .433 with a .800 slugging percentage in September despite missing time with a hamstring injury.

Due to Prado’s absence, the Yankees will likely play Stephen Drew at second base and Ichiro in right field for the remainder of the season. This injury could be the nail in the Yankees coffin as they were officially eliminated from the American League East race Monday.
The Yankees remain six games behind the Kansas City Royals for the final American League wild card and have 13 games remaining this season. Prado is an unrestricted free agent after this season and it is unknown if the Yankees are interested in resigning him.
