The Minnesota Vikings got dismantled by the New England Patriots this weekend without Adrian Peterson and now the team has to make a long term decision concerning their franchise player.

Peterson is currently facing charges for striking his son with a switch and causing cuts and bruises on his body. Peterson was deactivated by the Vikings before the Week 2 game against the Patriots, but what will the team do with him for the long haul?

Peter King of the MMQB believes the Vikings have four options that they will have to choose from.

“Cut Peterson immediately, which is unlikely—not only because he still can play at a very high level, but because he’s been great for the franchise, on- and (before last week) off-the-field, since being drafted.

Suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team, but that can last only four weeks, and then the Vikings would have to either take him back or release him.

Play him.

Trade him before the Oct. 28 deadline. Not easy, because of his current baggage and because he’s 29, old for a back.”

Peterson has owned up to the situation and is expected to face legal troubles, but the Vikings could act before he sees his day in court. The Vikings have been very quick when it comes to disciplining Peterson and could set the standard for the league in a time where they are facing many domestic violence issues.

The Vikings are 1-1 and are set to play the 0-2 New Orleans Saints on the road.
