The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with their own domestic violence situation and it is getting stickier by the day.

The 49ers have suspended their radio broadcaster Ted Robinson for his comments in light of the Ray Rice domestic violence situation. Robinson said during an interview that Ray Rice’s wife, Janay Rice, is partly to blame due to the fact that she married Rice soon after and continues to stand by him.

After the decision was passed down, Robinson made a public statement in order to apologize for his comments.

“I want to unconditionally apologize for my comments the other day,” Robinson said in a statement. “As a professional communicator, I am responsible for my words. My choice of words was careless and does not reflect my true feelings about domestic violence. I understand that the cycle of abuse keeps people in unhealthy relationships. No blame or responsibility for domestic violence should ever be placed on a victim.”

The 49ers have continued to state that they are strictly against domestic violence and would never employ a player who commits such a heinous act. The 49ers are catching some heat for the fact that they have suspended this man for two games for commenting on domestic violence, but continue to employee defensive end Ray McDonald during an ongoing domestic violence investigation.

McDonald has spent his entire seven-year NFL career with the 49ers and has registered 16.5 sacks over that time. McDonald played for the 49ers in their Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys and is expected to play for the team until he has his day in court.
