A battle of Cougars kicks off Week 3 of the college football season as newly ranked BYU takes on Houston at home Thursday night.

BYU is coming off a huge 34-point win against the Texas Longhorns and are looking to put that momentum to good use against a Houston team that is 1-1 on the season. BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall credited Cougars’ quarterback Taysom Hill for the team’s success.

"Ultimately, Taysom Hill is a phenomenal player," Mendenhall said. "He made a lot of great decisions, but there are just some sheer athleticism things that aren't coachable. He is just more poised than he was a year ago. He's better at leadership and the game is slowing down for him. His throwing the ball is more accurate.”

BYU jumped 10 spots in the AP Poll from Week 2 after the victory and leapfrogged the Nebraska Cornhuskers for No. 25 in the country.

Houston comes in after a 47-0 trouncing of Grambling State and is looking to get over .500 for the first time in 2014. Cougars quarterback John O’Korn responded from a terrible four interception game in Week 1 with a clean slate in Week 2. O’Korn could continue his progression in this matchup against a stout BYU defense that has only given up 17 points in two games.

BYU holds a 1-0 record against Houston all-time and the lone game came in a 47-46 victory last season.
