Billy Horschel looks to have redeemed himself after a disappointing second-place finish in last week's Deutsche Bank Championship, shooting a seven-under 63 in the third round of the BMW Championship on Saturday to take a three-shot lead heading into the final round.

Horschel didn't record a bogey the entire round. He made three birdies: a 22-foot birdie on 14, an eight-footer on 15 and a long 32-foot birdie putt on 18 to close out the round with a three-stroke lead over Ryan Palmer. Masters champion Bubba Watson shot 66 to tie for third place at eight-under with U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer, who shot 64.

Horschel had a chance to win or force a playoff on Monday at the Deutsche Bank Championship, but he bogeyed the 18th hole and had to settle for a second place tie.

The world's top-ranked player Rory McIlroy shot two-over 72 and will enter Sunday nine shots off the lead. McIlroy briefly tied for the lead when he sank a 60-foot shot on the fourth hole but all of that was erased when he four-putted from inside of five feet on 12. Second-round leader Sergio Garcia also shot two-over and is seven shots off the lead.

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson withdrew from the BMW Championship Saturday morning, citing his poor performance in the tournament and the upcoming Ryder Cup in three weeks as his reasons for foregoing the final two rounds. He shot 76 on Friday was 14 shots behind Garcia entering the third round.

Keegan Bradley also chose to withdraw because a drop he made on the 18th on Thursday didn't sit right with him.
