Michigan and Notre Dame is a rivalry as old as college football, but the rivalry comes to an end this year as the two sides have mutually decided not to schedule each other for the immediate future.

The Michigan-Notre Dame series started in 1887 when Michigan players taught the game to the Fighting Irish students and the rest is history. Michigan defensive end Frank Clark was one of many who are not happy that the series is coming to a stand still.

"That's one of the big rivals. You got Notre Dame-Michigan. You got (Michigan) State-Michigan. You got Ohio (State) vs. Michigan. For a team to opt out of that contract, and to opt out of playing another team that is a great rival and is one of those great games, it's almost like a slap in the face," he said. "We're going to do what we've got to do to get the job done.”

This game will give us a little bit of a change as the Irish are the favorites and the Wolverines are the rebuilding young squad. In a series such as this one, the jury is out on who is the true favorite, but the Irish will need this win to prove they are for real. For Michigan, a win in South Bend would look great on their resume as well as give the Big Ten a legitimate win this season.

Michigan leads the all-time series 24-16-1 including wins in four of the last five match ups. The last time the two teams didnt play each other for a significant amount of time was the 1940s where they didn’t play from 1943-1978.
