Where They Stand:
No. 14 USC Trojans (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12)
No. 13 Stanford Cardinal (-2.5) (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12)

There is no love lost between these Pac-12 rivals, but this is the first time that USC coach Steve Sarkisian will see the Stanford Cardinal while at the helm of the Trojans.

Sarkisian is no stranger to Stanford as he was coach at Washington for five seasons and went 1-4 against the Cardinal, but now he is on the sideline of a school that has much larger expectations. Sarkisian and Stanford coach David Shaw even had a little spat last season when Sarkisian accused the Cardinal players of faking injures in the closing minutes of Stanford’s 31-28 victory to stall the Washington offense.

The two coaches addressed that situation and have put the incident behind them.

"I think, first of all, I have a great deal of respect for David as a coach and as a person," Sarkisian said. "We had a disagreement in the heat of the moment and I think both of us have moved on. We've seen each other on different occasions since then. We were actually in Hawaii together at an event. We haven't spoken on it and I think our relationship is fine. We've moved on."

Shaw had the same feelings toward the situation.

"It was over," the fourth-year Cardinal coach said. "It was in the past. He and I sat together at lunch and breakfast a couple times and talked about a bunch of other things. Our wives are getting to become good friends; they know each other well so there's no animosity whatsoever.”

USC is coming off an impressive 52-13 victory against Fresno State and Stanford topped UC Davis 45-0. USC leads the all-time series with Stanford 60-29-3, but have dropped four of the last five.
