Gone are Aaron Murray, Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins, but Georgia and Clemson will face-off with the winner scoring first blood in their attempt to impress the college football selection committee.

These two teams opened up the 2013 season and they did not disappoint as the Clemson Tigers came out on top 38-35 against the Georgia Bulldogs.

When asked about the games implications on the final standings and the college football playoff, Georgia coach Mark Richt said that you have to believe that a win like this will go a long way toward impression the committee.

"I can't imagine the AP poll and the coaches poll won't have some effect on the panel," coach Richt said. "I'm sure that will have some kind of weight, even though it's not part of the formula. Humans look at those things.”

A loss by either team doesn’t mean that their dreams of entering the playoff are dead, but a serious blow will be dealt to the loser. The Tigers especially would benefit from a win against a high profile opponent from the SEC seeing how the ACC is seen as the inferior conference.

Georgia running back Todd Gurley is a Heisman Trophy candidate and he gets his first chance to impress as well. Gurley has battled injuries in his time at Georgia, but many believe he can both win the Heisman and break into the first round of the NFL draft.
