James Franklin makes his Penn State debut against the Blake Bortles-less Central Florida Knights in the first ever Croke Park Classic in Dublin, Ireland.

Franklin’s debut comes at an unorthodox time as the game has been threatened by volcano activity in the area, but nothing at Penn State has been by the book for the pas few seasons. Franklin spoke last week about the volcano situation.

"Just how I would have drawn it up: fly to a foreign country, get through customs, take on a volcano ..."

The Central Florida Knights are entering a transition as Pete DiNovo enters as the teams starting quarterback in the first season after Blake Bortles. DiNovo doesn't have to be Bortles for the Knights to have success this season, but it wouldn’t hurt their chances.

Penn State’s questions come from their lack of depth due to their continued sanctions stemming from the Jerry Sandusky scandal and they are finally starting to take their toll. The offensive line is made up of mostly underclassman and their backups aren’t much better.

Keeping star quarterback Christian Hackenberg will be the make or break of Penn State’s season.
