Vikings running back Adrian Peterson spoke to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in June and said he wants to play in Dallas when his time in Minnesota is up.

According to ESPN’s "Outside the Lines”, Jones and Peterson spoke on the phone and Peterson expressed his interest in playing for the Cowboys when he is able to leave the Vikings. As part of ESPN senior writer Don Van Natta Jr.’s extensive profile on Jones, the Cowboy owner recounted the conversation with Peterson.

"Well, I understand, Adrian," Jones told Peterson during the call. "I'd like that, too ... Well, I love your story. I love your daddy's story. I've always respected what you've been about. I've always been a fan of yours.”

"Well, we'll see what we can do, if we can make that happen," Jones, who is also the Cowboys' general manager, told Peterson. "Hmm hmm ... I'd like that, too ... Well, we're talking pig Latin here, but let's see if we can do that ... We're talking pig Latin here, but let's see what we can do about that. OK, Adrian, thanks.”

The two men spoke on June 7 after a George Strait concert when a Morgan Stanley money manager handed Jones a phone, with Peterson on the line, without Jones knowing who was on the other end.

NFL rules state when such contact is made by a player under contract from another team, the owner who spoke with the player must report the conversation to the owner who owns the players’ rights. Jones said he didn't believe the conversation was tampering and never contacted the Vikings concerning the phone call.

The 29-year-old Peterson is in the fourth year of a seven-year, $100 million contract and he will make $11.75 million this upcoming season.

"Outside the Lines” will air the story in it’s entirety at 9 a.m. (ET) Sunday on ESPN and the ESPN The Magazine story hits newsstands on Sept. 5.
