The Rams maintain that they are not seeking quarterback help in light of Sam Bradford’s torn ACL, but some believe St. Louis could pursue a former first round pick in the near future.
Mark Sanchez Opposed to a Rams Trade
Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports believes that the Minnesota Vikings could be swayed to depart with former first round pick Christian Ponder for a late round draft pick.
“When Bradford was hurt a year ago, the Rams tried to sign Saints practice-squad QB Ryan Griffin, but the Saints thwarted their efforts by creating a roster spot and convincing him to stay. Perhaps those teams could strike up some trade talk, or maybe a team such as the Minnesota Vikings might be willing to part with former first-rounder Christian Ponder for cheap. Incidentally, the Rams and Vikings meet in Week 1 in St. Louis.”
Ponder is clearly done in Minnesota and has seen next to no action in the preseason. Matt Cassel is the teams stop gate starter for 2014 and Teddy Bridgewater has shown flashes that he could be special in Norv Turner’s offense. It's time for Ponder to move on.
Ryan Mallett Trade Fate Depends on Jimmy Garoppolo
Edholm went on in his report that the Rams could also consider Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray. Ponder has also been linked to the San Francisco 49ers in light of Blaine Gabberts’ struggles, though Gabbert had shown some improvement in the team's last game.
The Rams open up the season against the Vikings and Shaun Hill is the team’s projected starter.
