No major competitors dropped after the first day of the U.S. Open as the second half of the draw takes the court with the hopes of advancing.

Venus Williams was the story of day one as she advanced against Kimiko Date-Krumm 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Date-Krumm is ten years younger than Williams, but Williams said that the match made her feel younger again.

"Definitely I was younger today," Williams said with a smile. "But when you step out on the court, I don't think anybody thinks about age. Because if you're out on this tour it means you deserve to be here. You've got the skill. It must means you know how to play. So at that point she has the number, as they say.”

Fellow American No. 21 Sloane Stephens beat Annika Beck 6-0, 6-3 in a quick match. No. 1 Serena Williams and No. 3 Petra Kvitova take the court Tuesday.
