Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Mike Evans was detained by police after getting into a fight at a nightclub in March.

TMZ reported that Evans was involved in a brawl outside Dream nightclub in Miami on March 15. Evans was reportedly kicked out of the club along with two other individuals. When the fighting began, nightclub security called for additional units to respond and that's when the cops arrived.

"The three individuals -- including Michael Evans -- who were originally kicked out of the establishment were later detained by officers for further investigation," Miami Beach PD told TMZ.

Evans was transported to a nearby police station along with the two other men but no charges were filed. TMZ initially reported that the incident happened last week, but Evans and his agent were able to clarify that it happened two months before he was drafted to Tampa Bay.

"Honestly, I forgot about the whole situation," Evans said to ESPN after Tampa Bay's preseason game against Buffalo on Saturday. "I put that behind me and it came up. I guess somebody’s trying to make some money or something. I don’t know what it is. I put it behind me. The situation was unfortunate. I could have handled it better and I plan on handling it better in the future."

Evans caught a 24-yard touchdown pass in the Buccaneers' 27-14 win against the Bills, his first of the preseason. The March incident has no affect on his standing with the Tampa Bay organization.

"Mike, as a 20-year-old, before he became a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, got into a fight," Bucs coach Lovie Smith said. "We couldn’t be more pleased to have him on our football team. We started judging Mike from the time he became a Tampa Bay Buccaneer."
