Tonight at 7:07 p.m. ET the Toronto Blue Jays (66-64) will lock horns with the Boston Red Sox as they try to remain players in the race for the American League East title. Live stream the game by clicking this link; J.A. Happ (8-8, 4.39 ERA) will pitch for the Jays against Clay Buchholz (5-8, 5.94 ERA). Blue Jays fans can listen to the radio broadcast on SN590, while Sox fans can do likewise on 93.7 WEEI.
The Blue Jays were at or near the front for much of the season, but have sunk to third in the AL East standings after dropping 14 of 20 games in August. "We gotta ... I don't know, just find a way," Happ said. "It starts with pitching."
Luckily for Toronto, few teams are flailing as badly as the Red Sox right now, who have lost their last eight consecutive tilts. Making matters worse, designated hitter David Ortiz left yesterday's game after fouling a pitch off his foot forcing him to hit the showers early.
Ortiz has been a bright spot for the BoSox in a very dismal season, posting a .265 batting average with 30 home runs, 93 RBI and 51 runs.
Buchholz, who was supposed to be a bright spot in the rotation, has gone 0-3 with a 7.05 ERA in his past six starts, all Red Sox losses. Following the wheeling and dealing at the trade deadline that sent away Jon Lester and John Lackey, a turnaround for Buchholz would be welcomed.
"For us to snap out of where we are, this is going to come from us on the mound," manager John Farrell said.
