Tiger Woods has announced that he and swing coach Sean Foley have parted ways after being together for four years.

Woods announced the split via his website on Monday and he took the opportunity to thank Foley while expressing his need for a change.

"I'd like to thank Sean for his help as my coach and for his friendship," Woods said on tigerwoods.com. "Sean is one of the outstanding coaches in golf today, and I know he will continue to be successful with the players working with him. With my next tournament not until my World Challenge event at Isleworth in Orlando [in December], this is the right time to end our professional relationship.”

Foley was Woods’ third-career swing coach joining Butch Harmon and Hank Haney. Woods won all of his 14 major championships with Haney and Harmon and has not captured another title since 2008. Woods is recovering from a back injury that has forced him out of numerous tournaments, including the PGA Championship.

Who Will Replace Tiger Woods at the Ryder Cup?

Harmon is considered the best coach that Woods ever had and there could potentially be a reunion between the two. This scenario is very unlikely, however, as the two have many unresolved issues stemming from the days when they worked together.

It is believed that Harmon’s methods and way of etching his style of swing caused Woods’ knee to deteriorate until it finally shut down in 2008. Harmon also has a full slate of clients that he coaches, including Phil Mickelson.

Woods said he doesn't expect to pick up a golf club for a month or two and has withdrawn his name from consideration in the Ryder Cup.
