With quarterback Sam Bradford out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee, the St. Louis Rams' rumor mill may or may not have an early front-runner as his successor.

Mark Sanchez.

Sanchez played for current Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for three seasons when the two were with the New York Jets. But Sanchez regressed significantly after leading the Jets to the AFC Championship Game in 2009 and 2010.

He had 69 interceptions and 43 fumbles in his first four seasons in New York, according to SB Nation. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this past offseason.

Stereotyping and prejudice are underlying reasons for Colin Kaepernick criticism, QB says

Questions on both sides of the equation exist. The Rams had a chance to sign Sanchez in the offseason but chose to sign Shaun Hill instead. Hill now is the Rams starter. But he is 34 and has not started a game since 2010.

Sanchez has performed well for the Eagles during the preseason. According to USA TODAY Sports, Sanchez has completed 25 of 31 passes for 281 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Eagles in three exhibition games combined.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rappaport says the Eagles' asking price might be more than the Rams are willing to give.

Then, there's the report that Sanchez has no interest in joining the Rams. USA TODAY Sports reports that Sanchez said if it were up to him, there's "no chance" he'd be willing to leave his current situation as a backup for coach Chip Kelly in Philadelphia, citing a source familiar with Sanchez's thought-process.

USA TODAY Sports reports:

"At age 27, Sanchez has time to reboot his once-promising career. There's no reason to rush into a situation like the one in St. Louis, where he'd be trying to get in rhythm with new teammates at the same time the Rams are preparing for a season opener that's just two weeks away."

Except for the fact that it's an opportunity to start in the NFL, on a team that has a defense that could help the team get into the postseason with the right quarterback on offense.

Starting quarterback jobs are not handed out every day; if Sanchez isn't intrigued by the opportunity, then perhaps he isn't the right man for the job.
