Today at 1:10 p.m. ET, the Atlanta Braves (68-62) and Cincinnati Reds (62-69) take the field at Great American Ball Park for the final contest of a four-game set. Atlanta continues a 10-game road trip it is currently 4-2 on while Cincinnati closes out the first series in a seven-game homestand. The Braves took the first two games of this set with an 8-0 win on Thursday and a 3-1 triumph on Friday while the Reds got one back with a 1-0 shutout win Saturday and will seek the split.
Atlanta enters play in second place in the National League East which places them seven games behind the first place Washington Nationals and a game out in the NL wild-card race. Cincinnati comes into Sunday in fourth place in the NL Central, 9.5 games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers and seven games out of wild-card contention.
Aaron Harang (10-7, 3.50 ERA) takes the ball for the Braves against his old team while Cincinnati turns to Alfredo Simon, who is 12-6 with a 3.35 ERA.
Harang owns a 2.16 ERA against his former team and will look to continue that success this afternoon.
"It is nice to see him resurrect his career," Reds manager Bryan Price said of Harang via MLB.com. "He is a very good guy and an accomplished pitcher. He was the ace of the staff here.
Harang won his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates as the Braves try to keep pace with the San Francisco Giants in the wild-card race.
"We just got to look at it one game at a time," the right-hander told MLB.com.
Harang faces a Reds lineup that is led by third baseman Todd Frazier, who paces the team in batting average (.277), homers (21) and RBI (66). Outfielder Billy Hamilton has been a spark plug, ranking second in the NL with 49 stolen bases.
The Braves respond with a lineup that is led by first baseman Freddie Freeman, who paces the team with a .294 batting average and ranks fifth in the NL with 83 runs scored and 35 doubles. Outfielder Justin Upton leads Atlanta with 25 homers and 86 RBI.
The Braves and Reds close out a four-game set this afternoon at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
