Gennady "GGG" Golovkin has finally found an opponent for his next fight on October 18-Marco Antonio Rubio. The fight will take place at the Stubhub Center in California. Golovkin stages his training camps in Big Bear, but this bout will be his professional debut in the Golden State.

After a July victory over Daniel Geale, who had been billed as the toughest fight for Golovkin yet, he called out WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto to no avail.

Cotto's priority is Canelo, not Golovkin

Golovkin has said he wants to unify all the 160-lb. titles, but Cotto's camp expressed little interest, Peter Quillin is fighting in November against Matt Korobov, and IBF champion Sam Soliman has a scheduled date with Jermain Taylor on October 4.

During the buildup for his fight with Geale, Golovkin and his camp maintained that he isn't frustrated by the inability to get in the ring with name fighters and they haven't changed his tune when discussing the fight with Rubio.

Andre Ward rep hints Golovkin is ducking S.O.G.

"Marco Antonio Rubio is among the toughest fighters in boxing and this battle with Gennady should provide fireworks from the opening bell," Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions.

The 34-year-old challenger will carry a 59-6-1 record into his clash with Golovkin, and is riding a six-fight winning streak that includes five wins by knockout or stoppage. With 51 knockouts, Rubio does possess good power and promised to trade with Golovkin.

"I'm excited to fight another world champion," Rubio said. "I always accept the biggest challenges and without a doubt this will be the greatest of my career. I will show Golovkin a real Mexican style fight on Oct. 18th."

Rubio has also been knocked out in three of his six losses, while Golovkin owns the highest knockout rate (90 percent) of any belt holder in the sport.
