Italy National Team: Former Juventus Manager Antonio Conte Reaches Agreement To Be Next National Team Head Coach

Having departed Juventus for greener pastures following the 2013-14 Serie A campaign, Antonio Conte has landed at his next destination, with beIN Sports' Tancredi Palmeri reporting (via Twitter) his appointment as the next head coach of the Italian national team. Per Rai Sport (via Football Italia) his wages will be just over €4 million per year, making him the second-highest paid international coach.

Conte spent four seasons as manager of the Old Lady, winning three Serie A titles with relative ease. His managerial Swan song saw the club smash the Italian points record. Juventus finished the season with a stunning 102 points. In a statement announcing his departure from Turin, however, Conte hinted at a burning desire to win more than just a league title.

In four seasons, he had taken Juventus as far as he could.

"I have decided to terminate my contract with Juventus," he told the club's official website. "I have matured with time and my feelings led me to make this choice. It may be more difficult to keep winning with Juventus."

"An enormous thank you for what you have given to me as a player and as a coach," he added. "I have always been close to you. I want to say that the journey taken in recent years has been historic."

Ironically enough, the Italian boss left Juventus to coach them in a different uniform. Six of Italy's 11 starters from the 2014 World Cup hailed from Turin. Conte will have one final opportunity to "keep winning" with the club he helped return to prominence.
