Los Angles is long overdue for a new football team and Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson believes the city is ready for a team in the near future.

According to Yahoo Sports, Johnson believes that Los Angeles is a prime candidate for the NFL and that a new team will be in the city within the next two years.

"I think for the first time, I truly believe we're going to get a team. Finally," Johnson said. "Everybody is on board. The city is on board. The business community is on board. The NFL is on board. Finally we have momentum. In the next couple years, at least in the next 24 months, I think one team will be coming. I don't know what team that will be, but I believe in the next two years we'll have a team.”

A proposed $1.5 billion stadium is ready for construction the downtown Los Angeles and has already attracted the eyes of a few owners in the NFL. The Oakland Raiders, who have had conversations about moving the team to San Antonio, are a prime candidate to relocate back to Los Angeles.

Johnson said the city would welcome the Raiders back with open arms.

"It would be great to have the Raiders back in L.A., I would love for that to happen," Johnson said. "But that's going to be up to Mark and the Raiders and the NFL. But I would love to have the Raiders back in L.A. where they belong.

"We just want a team, we want a team in the worst way.”

Los Angeles has many suitors when they are ready for an NFL team. The San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, St. Louis Rams and even an expansion team have all been rumored to occupy the city in the near future.
