Despite his injuries and lackluster play, Tiger Woods has not been eliminated from Ryder Cup consideration according to Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson.

PGA Championship the Start of the Rory Era?

Watson spoke Monday morning about the potential roster for the Ryder Cup, but instead of the conversation being about the nine golfers who automatically qualified on Sunday, the talks focused on Tiger Woods.

"I think it directly comes from Tiger," Watson said. "How he assesses himself. He has a directness to him. I'm direct and he's direct. The main thing is I can't assess his medical condition. And I really can't assess how he is playing. It's really going to have to come from him.

"I don't make this comment loosely. He is Tiger Woods and he brings a lot to the team if he has the ability to play and he is healthy. He brings a lot to the team. And I would be a fool not to consider him.”

Watson echoed his stance on Woods by saying that if he is healthy and playing well he will be on the team. The problem with Watson’s stance is that Woods is not scheduled to play again before the start of the Ryder Cup on September 26.

Watson said he believes Woods will be honest with him when he speaks to him about his health and his game before the September 2 deadline. The top nine players in the Ryder Cup standings automatically qualify for the team with another three picks to made by the captain.

Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk lead the Ryder Cup standings and Zach Johnson holds the ninth and last spot.
