The Chicago Cubs have been revealed to be the mystery team that has put in a claim for Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels. The two sides have nearly 24 hours to compete a trade for the ace and then Hamels must approve of the deal.
WPEN radio's Mike Missanelli was first to report that Chicago was the team that put in a claim on Hamels. Within the 24 hours, the Phillies can only negotiate with the Cubs for potential trades including the left-hander or rescind the waiver request.
My info sez the CUBS put in the waiver claim on Cole Hamels. Would the Phils trade him there now and would Cole accept?

The Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer believes that the chances of the Cubs pulling off a trade for the 31-year-old are slim as any potential trade would have to include newly acquired Cubs' prospect Addison Russell. The Phillies made Hamels available as the trade deadline inched closer, but it was highly unlikely that a deal was ever going to happen.
The Phillies are expected to pursue possible Hamels’ trades in the offseason and must work around his preferences. Hamels is guaranteed $22.5 million each season through 2018. Hamels is the owner of a 6-6 record and a 2.42 ERA through 20 starts in 2014.
The odds of the Cubs finishing a Cole Hamels deal today are probably the same as Pete Rose's chances for being the next commissioner. — Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) August 8, 2014
